Straw bale classroom in Kent

New detached timber framed straw bale infill ancillary classroom block at Rippledown environmental education centre designed by Conker Conservation Ltd for The Bay Trust.

Green Building Solutions was the consultant for straw bale and building regulation issues and subsequently carried out the straw bale build aspect of the project.

The timber frame was constructed and erected by Norton Timber out of timber reclaimed from Thames.

Green Building Solutions was founded and is run by Mark Saich.



Mark has worked in the construction industry for over 25 years starting with an apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery and then 10 years in local authority (building control and environmental health) and 10 years as a sustainable construction consultant and project manager for an approved inspector (private sector building control).



As well as ensuring compliance with the building regulations and Housing Act standards, Mark was involved with Home Energy Conservation Act duties, promoting carbon reductions and providing energy efficiency advice for home owners/occupiers, and producing SAP ratings.



Mark has a Higher National Certificate in Building Studies, an Honours Degree in Environmental Science, and has a post graduate diploma in Architecture (Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies) through the Centre of Alternative Technology.
